Guru Rinpoche

Digital Media, 2019

This Lineage Thangka centrally depicts the main source of the Vajrayana teachings in Tibet, Guru Rinpoche, otherwise known as Padmasambhava or Pedma Jungne (tib. པདྨ་འབྱུང་གནས་), along with the specific propagators of the Longchen Nyingthik (ཀློང་ཆེན་སྙིང་ཐིག་) and Dzogchen traditions, Longchenpa (ཀློང་ཆེན་པ་) and Jigme Lingpa (འཇིགས་མེད་གླིང་པ་).

Padmasambhava received these teachings directly from Vajrasattva, who received them from the Primordial Buddha Samantabhadra who are both pictured above Guru Rinpoche's head.  Both Longchenpa and Jigme Lingpa (pictured below, left to right) were said to be treasure revealers and received teachings from Guru Rinpoche directly, however, Jigme Lingpa primarily received the lineage from Longchenpa in a series of 3 visions while he was in retreat at the historic Samye Monastery in Tibet. Thus, beginning the Dzogchen lineage of the Longchen Nyingthik.
